As Senior Vice President, Retail Operations since 2013, Jim Schwab is responsible for all licensed and corporate retail operations in Save-A-Lot stores. In this role, he manages sales and profits in corporate stores as well as execution, new store growth, site selection and sales for the company's licensed stores. Jim joined the Save-A-Lot team when parent company SUPERVALU INC. acquired Deal$ — Nothing Over A Dollar in 2002, a dollar store chain, where he held the position of Executive Vice President--Operations and Distribution. Prior to joining Deal$, Jim worked for Value City Department Stores as a VP of retail operations. He began his career at Grandpa's, a regional General Merchandise Discount Chain based in St. Louis, where he served as Director of Stores and later Chief Operating Officer. He was promoted to President in 1993 and to Chief Executive Officer in 1996. He held this position until Grandpa's was acquired by Value City in 1999. With Save-A-Lot he served as Vice President of Distribution from 2003 to 2007 and as a regional Vice President of corporate and licensed retail from 2007 to 2013.
Jim served in the United States Marine Corps as a commissioned infantry officer. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Illinois. He and his wife Nancy reside in St Louis.
