Mike Kemp

Mike Kemp joined Save-A-Lot in 2004 as the director of perishable procurement and operations. In 2008, he was named Vice President of Procurement where he manages the company's procurement of produce, meat, dairy, bakery and seafood. Mike works directly with growers, shippers, vendors and buyers to ensure that Save-A-Lot receives the lowest possible costs and highest quality products in its stores.

Before joining Save-A-Lot, Mike held numerous positions at parent company SUPERVALU for nearly 20 years in both the retail and wholesale segments. Prior to that Mike spent 10 years at Eagle Discount Foods, as well as working at his parents' small grocery store near Dubuque, Iowa.

In 2002 Mike was named "Retailer of the Year" by Produce Merchandising magazine, and in 2006 trade magazine The Packer named him the "Packer Person of the Year Award" for his achievements and contributions to the industry.

Mike was appointed by USDA Secretary of Agriculture, Ann Veneman, to the first Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee which offers guidance and support to the nation's fruit and vegetable industry.

Mike earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. He is a former board member for United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association, and Past Chairman of the Board for the Produce for Better Health Foundation, and has also served in several capacities within the Produce Marketing Association. Mike, his wife and children reside in St. Louis.
