FIVE MORE RITE AID PHARMACIES CO-BRANDED WITH SAVE-A-LOT FOOD STORES OPEN TODAY IN GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA

First Co-branded Store Opened September 27 in Easley, South Carolina, as Part of 10-store Test

CAMP HILL, PA (October 11, 2010) – Five more stores co-branded Save-A-Lot Food Stores/Rite Aid Pharmacy open this morning in Greenville, S.C. The stores continue to be owned and operated by Rite Aid (NYSE: RAD), and the Rite Aid pharmacies are operating as usual.

This follows the Sept. 27 debut of the first co-branded Save-A-Lot/Rite Aid Pharmacy in Easley, S.C.  Rite Aid has entered into a licensing agreement with Save-A-Lot, a subsidiary of SUPERVALU (NYSE: SVU), to add the discount, limited assortment grocery store concept to 10 existing Rite Aid stores in the Greenville market.

About 75 percent of the non-pharmacy part of each store is devoted to Save-A-Lot.  Grocery products offered by Save-A-Lot include a limited selection of fresh USDA inspected meat, processed smoked and packaged meat, fresh produce, frozen food, dairy and dry groceries at prices up to 40 percent lower than conventional grocery stores. Grocery products include both Save-A-Lot exclusive brands and national brands.

Rite Aid continues to offer a wide variety of health and beauty products, including national and Rite Aid private brands.

The Greenville stores opening this morning are located at:
1400 Woodruff Road
1 East Stone Avenue
6700 Whitehorse Road
3050 White Horse Road
2422 Wade Hampton Boulevard

The remaining four stores in the 10-store test remain open during conversion to the co-branded concept and are scheduled to be completed later this month. Two of the four stores are located in Simpsonville, and the other two are located in Greer and Travelers Rest.

“The response by customers to our new co-branded store in Easley has been great, and we’re excited that we‘re now able to expand the concept to five more locations,” said Ken Martindale, Rite Aid Chief Operating Officer. “By co-branding with Save-A-Lot, we’re able  to continue offering the Rite Aid pharmacy services and health and beauty items people have come to expect and at the same time offer high quality grocery products like fresh meats and produce at great prices.  We’re pleased to provide even more quality, convenience and value at the Greenville stores.”

“This exciting new format, featuring aspects of both a traditional Rite Aid pharmacy and Save-A-Lot food store, provides added convenience and value to our consumers in the Greenville, SC, area,” said Bill Shaner, Save-A-Lot President and CEO. “Save-A-lot is committed to offering local shoppers an easy way to save, with high-quality groceries at everyday low prices – typically up to 40 percent less than traditional grocers.”
