ST. LOUIS -- June 5, 2003 -- Dave Bloomquist, Grocery Procurement Manager for Save-A-Lot Food Stores, recently was selected as one of Private Label Buyer Magazine's "Top Ten Retail Executives of the Year." Bloomquist, who manages the company's grocery procurement and is directly responsible for frozen food and beverage procurement, will be honored and featured in the magazine's June issue.

Over the past five years, Bloomquist has been credited with evolving and expanding Save-A-Lot's successful custom brand and national brand frozen food selection. And most recently, Bloomquist has overseen the roll out of Save-A-Lot's updated private label soda line. Last month, Save-A-Lot introduced the new soda line with contemporary new labels and improved formulas.

"At Save-A-Lot we focus on quality at a great value," Bloomquist said. "We've been very successful with our line of custom brands because we continually test our products to see how they compare with their leading brand counterparts. Our customers deserve the best products available and Save-A-Lot's custom brands often exceed their national brand equivalents."

Bloomquist was one of the select group of ten that were nominated and elected by the magazine's readership as one of the top executives in the private label industry. Nominations were based on the individual's fundamental appreciation of the role of private label brands and for having a win-win spirit in partnerships with vendors.

Save-A-Lot is the nation's leading extreme value grocery retailer, operating more than 1,000 limited assortment food stores and 100-plus Deal$ - Nothing Over A Dollar general merchandise locations. Save-A-Lot has achieved its growth and success by developing a different way of retailing - offering a limited assortment of custom and national brand products at savings up to 40 percent compared to conventional grocery stores. Save-A-Lot is a subsidiary of SUPERVALU, the nation's 11th largest food retailer and the nation's leading food distributor. SUPERVALU is a Fortune 100 company and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol SVU.

Bloomquist has been recognized as one of Frozen Food Age Magazine's Top Ten Buyers for two consecutive years. Prior to joining Save-A-Lot, Bloomquist worked for Meijer Inc. and Dollar General after graduating from Grand Valley State University in Michigan. He and his wife and two children reside in O'Fallon, Missouri.
