ST. LOUIS -- June 13, 2008 -- Be assured that every tomato on our shelf is safe and delicious and meets our high quality standards. These tomatoes are sourced only from areas approved by the FDA.
On Wednesday, June 11, Save-A-Lot announced that it is placing certified safe Round and Roma tomatoes back on its store shelves in many areas of the country.
The FDA has updated the list of states and countries growing tomatoes not linked to the recent Salmonella saintpaul outbreak. This list includes certain counties in the state of Florida where most of the Save-A-Lot tomatoes are sourced.
In response to this, Save-A-Lot will begin shipping its Department of Agriculture certified Florida-grown tomatoes to stores as early as Friday, June 13.
All Red Round or Roma Tomatoes on display in stores have been traced back to or sourced from the FDA regions safe to eat list.
Save-A-Lot also continues to carry Grape and Cherry Tomatoes and/or Tomatoes Sold with the Vine Attached. These tomatoes have not been linked to the Salmonella Saintpaul outbreak.
Customer safety is a top priority at Save-A-Lot. All tomato products carried in our stores adhere fully to the regulations and standards of the FDA, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and other governmental organizations.
