Saint Louis, MO (December
17, 2008) – Save-A-Lot food stores has extended their relationship with Roush
Fenway Racing signing on as a primary sponsor for Carl Edwards and the No. 60
Ford for 13 races in the Nationwide Series in 2009. The Sam’s Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor
Speedway will mark the first race for Save-A-Lot as the primary sponsor. Edwards, the 2007 Nationwide Series champion
and 2008 NASCAR.com “Driver of the Year”, is excited about building upon his
relationship with the Saint Louis, Mo.-based company.
"It's been a great
experience to represent Save-A-Lot and all of their associates,” said
Edwards. “Everyone knows it's a priority
of mine to work with companies like Save-A-Lot who's dedicated to addressing
health issues. On behalf of the entire No. 60 team I want to thank Save-A-Lot
for supporting us throughout this great season. We look forward to putting
Save-A-Lot back in victory lane in 2009."
Save-A-Lot food stores
president and CEO Bill Shaner echoed Edwards' excitement saying, "Everyone
at Save-A-Lot is excited that we’ve decided to partner with Carl Edwards and
the Roush-Fenway Racing team for a second year. After a successful 2008 season
both on and off-track, we are looking forward to working with Carl once again
to represent our brand with the highest integrity. This partnership will once
again give shoppers another reason to discover the great food, great prices,
and great people that Save-A-Lot has to offer."
Edwards had a solid 2008 season
with seven wins, 19 top-five and 22 top-10 finishes including two pole
awards. Edwards and the Save-A-Lot team
came on strong at the end of the season launching a campaign for their second
title winning four of the last 10 races.
The team fell just short of a second championship finishing a mere 21
points behind Clint Bowyer to clinch second place.
In 2009, Edwards will enter
into his fifth full-time season in the Nationwide Series in addition to his
full-time Sprint Cup duties as he looks to become the first driver to win both
championships in the same year.
