Vice President, Regional Retail Operations

As Vice President of Retail Operations, Jim Schwab is responsible for all retail operations in Save-A-Lot stores located in the northeast region of the United States. In his role, he manages sales and profits in corporate stores as well as execution, new store growth, site selection and sales for the company's licensed stores.

Jim joined the Save-A-Lot team when parent company SUPERVALU INC. acquired Deal$ — Nothing Over A Dollar in 2002, a dollar store chain. He previously held the position of Vice President of Distribution where he was responsible for the company's warehousing and distribution operations.

Prior to joining Deal$, Jim worked for Value City Department Stores as a Regional Vice President, when it was acquired by Grandpa's, a discount chain. Jim began his career at Grandpa's in 1978 as an assistant store manager and subsequently served as Director of Stores and Chief Operating Officer. He was promoted to President in 1993 and to Chief Executive Officer in 1996. He directed retail operations until Grandpa's was acquired by Value City.

Jim served in the United States Marine Corps as a commissioned infantry officer. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Illinois. Jim, his wife and their three children reside in St. Louis.
