Remember to Thaw

Cooking frozen meat in a slow cooker leaves your meat at risk for contamination. Here are three ways to thaw out your meat before you cook it:

Remember To Thaw

  1. 1.
Freezer To Fridge: Leave your frozen meat in the fridge for about 10 hours to safely defrost it.
  2. 2.
Cold Water: Put the meat in a plastic bag and place in a bowl of cold water. It should take as little as 15 minutes to as much as 3 hours to thaw depending on the size.
  3. 3.
Microwave Method: The microwave works best for fast thawing. Just make sure you start cooking immediately after you take it out of the microwave.

Clean Your Cooker

  3. 3.
Set cooker to low and cover. After an hour, remove lid and scrub.
  4. 4.
Put the lid back on and repeat step three if needed.
